Nearby Construction Updates

As is necessary with all properties, renovations and repairs are always needed. Over the years
many things have been done to Maui Eldorado to keep it in tip top condition and I’m happy to say
that at the moment most of the big (or inconvenient) jobs seem to have been completed.

Nearby at the Whaler, major work is still being performed as these October photos show. Work at the Whaler is scheduled to be completed by late June of 2009. If you contemplate staying there soon be aware of this ongoing project.

Meanwhile, at Royal Lahaina, sales of the proposed new condominiums are challenging. As of October, 10 of 60 units had deposits put down. Those units were at the lower end of the price range, which varies from $2,000 and more per square foot.

In a recent issue of Conde Nast Traveler, they had an issue featuring “Affordable Hawaii- 6 islands 22 stays under $200.” Naturally I read it with interest.

If you missed it here are their Maui recommendations:

The secret of doing Maui without breaking the bank is to find an alternative to a costly resort and eating where the locals do. If you like golf, shopping, and buzz of Maui’s luxe resort communities- Kaanapali, Kapalua, Wailea and Makena, book a condo instead of a hotel. If you don’t need all the glam, consider more modest areas like Kihei and Napili.

Suggested lodging: Kihei’s Aloha Pualani. Strength: the beach is across the street. Weakness: the street. Rates for studio: $235-$265. Wailea’s Polo Beach Club, great views but run down Studio rates: $216 and up.

Conde Nast should have called me. J-220 beats all these properties, locations, isn’t “run down,” and will save you more per week than any of their recommendations!

Conde Nast Missed J-220, but you shouldn’t.

Aloha to those who have emailed inquiries about staying in studio J-220, and a special Aloha and mahalo to guests of Maui Eldorado J-220 who have stayed with me.

2008 is the 25th year I have been renting J-220 to guests. The Guest Books are full of thoughtful and fun comments by people from around the world.

Those who want to come from December to April usually book well in advance; summer months
are also popular; May, October and November are not quite as busy and fine months on Maui. So
plan ahead if you can and please email or call. I do get cancellations occasionally so your last
minute travel plans are well worth an email too. Rentals of less than a week are difficult and can
only be taken if they fit in with prior longer term stays.

Based on guests’ comments dating back to 1984, J-220 is a real favorite. If you come, I think you
will enjoy it too. Regards, Dave.Visit for the first time, or return again.
